AHOY! IT'S PIRATE NIGHT SEPT. 2007


AHOY MATEYS! WE CELEBRATED PIRATE NIGHT ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2007! Pirates came dressed for the occasion to listen to Pirate stories, play Pirate Bean Bag Toss and make Eye Patches or Treasure Maps! They also took a prize from the Treasure Chest! Thank you to all our pirate fans who made the evening so much fun!
Our next family program is Halloween Lunch Tales on Saturday October 27th @ 11:30 am. Dress in your best costume, bring a sack lunch and hear Halloween stories, make and take a craft, and Trick or Treat in the Library! Contact the Youth Services Dept. @ 852-4505 for more details!

American Girl Doll Collection

MICHELLE JOHNSON shows her American Girl Doll Collection in the Youth Services Department of the Kewanee Public Library. Michelle is a member of the Junior High Advisory Board. The "JHAB" holds monthly meetings to help Youth Services Staff add popular books, movies, and CD's to the KPLD collection. JHAB members also help plan programming as well as serve as volunteers in the Youth Services Department. Any student entering 6th-8th Grade this fall may join the JHAB. Please contact Heather for details.

Any student with a special collection he or she would like to share in our display case is encouraged to contact the Youth Services Department @ 852-4505.

Curious George


CURIOUS GEORGE "the curious little monkey", from the famous children's series by H. A. Rey and Margret Rey, came to visit KPLD on Thursday July 26, 2007. Kerri Foley of WQPT-TV presented a Meet and Greet program which had over 100 attendees. Youth got a chance to be photographed with their pal Curious George. We would like to thank the Amy Helpenstell Foundation for being a sponsor of this event. Stay cool and watch a movie

Friday, July 6th at 10 AM (at the Kewanee Public Library)
Watch The Apartment at the library on our big screen.This 1961 Academy Award winning film stars Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray. The Apartment is a comedy and tells the story of a man who tries an unusual method to climb the corporate ladder and runs into unexpected complications. The showing is free to the public and includes free popcorn courtesy of Kewanee’s own Wanee Theatre.

Saturday, July 7th at 11 AM (at the Wanee Theatre)
See the award-winning movie version of The Grapes of Wrath at the Wanee Theatre. See how Hollywood tells the story of the Joad family’s struggles during the Great Depression, and compare it with John Steinbeck’s book. This showing marks the conclusion of the 2007 Kewanee Reads.

Crafts & Games SRP 2007

Nineteen students enjoyed Crafts & Games on June 14, 2007. Heather Darding assisted students in making Scratch-Off Color Pictures and Sarah Barth led students in playing the game "Pictionary". Crafts and Games are a part of the Mission Read Summer Reading Program.

Sandi Sylver visits June 7, 2007


Sandi Sylver delighted an audience of 115 kids & grown-ups on June 7th @ KPLD. We heard funny songs and stories, and enjoyed visiting with puppet friends Harry and Toodles. This summer has gotten off to a great start! Remember the fun is not over yet! For more information, stop by the 2nd Floor Youth Department to register for the summer reading program and receive a calendar of summer events.


Rob Erdmann Visits KPLD on June 5


Magician Rob Erdmann and his friend Shivers visited KPLD on June 5th! He entertained 80 patrons with his show of magic tricks, puppets and storytelling.


Assistant Ryan VanWassenhove becomes Magnet Man from the Chris Van Allsburg book Zathura.

The library is offering free Internet training to Adult beginners.

No previous computer knowledge is assumed.

We will teach you the basics of using a mouse and a web browser in the library.

Currently classes are held Thursdays at 2 or by appointment.

all you have to bring is a dish that you have prepared,
the recipe and your appetite.
